Silver State
The nickname for Nevada is The Silver State, dating from the Nevada silver rush days of the mid 1800's. At that time silver was literally shoveled off the ground in Nevada. Heavy gray crusts of silver had formed on the surface of the desert over millions of years and were polished by dust and wind to the dull luster of a cow horn (called "horn silver").

The star indicates we are the “Silver State,” and the words “Battle Born” remind us we became a state during the Civil War. The sagebrush sprays under the star represent our state flower and symbol. The word Nevada was spelled around the star on the flag.

Ichthyosoar Skeleton

Ichthyosaurian species varied from 1 to 26 metres (3 to 85 ft) in length. Ichthyosaurians resembled both modern fish and dolphins. Their limbs had been fully transformed into flippers, which sometimes contained a very large number of digits and phalanges. At least some species possessed a dorsal fin.
